The service at Köln Dom last Sunday was an immersive and interesting experience. The towering architecture of the Gothic style cathedral deepened are awe as we were immersed in the atmosphere of the Dom. Hymns in German as well as Latin chants were part of the Catholic liturgy. Accompanying and leading the singing of the congregation, there was a choir and an organist.

Visiting Sachsenhausen and the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin were experiences that brought into context the terrors experienced in WWII by the Jewish people living in Germany, that suffered so greatly under their systematic targeting and the Holocaust. Understanding how Germany has responded to the Holocaust helps us realise that dialogue and education are key to helping reconcile the events of the past and prevent history from repeating itself.

Germany has been great this first week! It has been a lot of fun exploring Berlin. There are so many cultural and historical sites that make this city such a unique place. I did not expect all the street food across the city to be so cheap! However, many of the main tourist destinations have food that is very overpriced.
