Elevator Pitch

Germany is a place of wonderful food, great people and amazing sights. Berlin especially was extremely diverse with several immigrants who have been welcomed to the city. This engineering trip proved to be an amazing experience where you will create close relationships and eat delicious food. The trip also proved that survival is definitely for the fittest since you will learn how to properly budget so you don’t run out of money for food. Despite the fact that we were in Germany for class, there was never a day that we didn’t do something exciting or saw something interesting.

As a part of the trip we were given the chance to explore Europe with our train passes . This was a tremendous experience. In my last week, I travelled from Berlin, Germany to Paris, France and then to Prague, Czech Republic. I have had some really great experiences.

Living in Germany

In the picture above lies everyone who lived in my room while at the Heim  plus Felicia who stays in our room more than her own. We had became so close in only a couple of weeks living together. We were so close that we all chose to wear black and white on the same day without planning it. We stayed together for most of the time ensuring that we looked out for each other. Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp

The murder of several Jews, the adamant creation of what Hitler deemed as a ‘perfect’ race and the politicization of such were gruesome to learn about in detail.  At Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp, we were given the chance to walk around the graveyard of the murdered Jews, see the main headquarters and several other important sites.  I had the chance to read about the pain, torture and horror faced by not only the Jews but people who opposed Hitler. Initially, I had assumed that I knew all the major details of what happened in World War II. However, this was not the case. Details of how they originally got Jews to enter concentration camps and the wicked assistance from the SSR’s medical team were heartbreaking to read. My experience walking through the Sachsenhausen Camp was both emotionally draining and thought-provoking.

Germany versus Jamaica

The first thing I noticed when I arrived in Berlin is the beautiful infrastructure which outlines the city. When I first exited the airport, I was greeted with poisonous smoke blown out from the lips of a seemingly adept smoker. I noticed on my bus ride through the city, the elegance and creativity of the art scattered across Berlin. Berlin has several statues of bears on almost every street corner all of which I aim to take a picture with. Continue reading “Germany versus Jamaica”

First Thoughts

I chose to be a part of the 2019 Summer Germany Engineering program with the desires of starting my trek on becoming a world traveller and completing one of many engineering courses. This program would serve as a valuable experience where I could explore German culture while learning about the  mechanics of particles. I held the hope that this class will meet my expectations of being a building block for solving real engineering problems. Continue reading “First Thoughts”
