Traveling to another continent without my family, initially, felt daunting. After a week, I’ve been able to connect with more of my peers who are eager to explore the city together.
I felt I’ve gotten to understand the city in a way I haven’t for any others I’ve traveled to. Even though this is my third time in Germany, I’ve never stayed more than a day, so this week gave me the chance to fully appreciate Berlin. While the first few times allowed me to learn about Berlin’s history, being here for a full week allowed me to learn about the culture.
Although I definitely miss free water, I was really surprised by the transport system. In every other country I’ve visited, the buses have are usually dilapidated and always late. I really admire the design of the cities public transit systems that I believe many U.S cities would benefit from. It has such an efficiency and effectiveness that makes the L-train back in Chicago feel useless.
Overall, I’ve found this week to be enjoyable, yet rough due to news I received from back home. I hope that the rest of the trip will be better now that I’m more familiar with the surrounding area.
